Jacksonville Public Art App
This project helped develop my UI/UX skills from concept to completion while allowing me to integrate my vested interest in the arts. The process was a comprehensive journey that honed my ability to create user-centered designs, emphasizing both functionality and aesthetics. Additionally, I loved how the project feels as if it could reside in reality; all of the photography found throughout the mockups are photos I’ve taken in Jacksonville, adding a personal and authentic touch to the design. By using my own photography, I was able to ensure that every visual element aligned perfectly with the overall vision and theme of the project, creating a cohesive and immersive user experience. This blend of personal passion and professional development made the project exceptionally rewarding and inspiring.

The project's brief was to design something I would like to see in the world. Given the profound impact of art in my life as a beautiful and transformative force, I embraced this challenge by creating a community-driven art discovery app tailored for my city. This app functions as an extension of the city's Cultural Council, with the goal of enriching the community by enhancing the accessibility and discoverability of local art. I also created a landing page for the app as well.
For the color scheme, I opted for an understated palette to ensure the artwork remained the focal point. I selected a single hero color for actionable items, which is subdued enough not to distract from the primary attraction: the art being discovered.
I chose a typeface that exudes elegance and sophistication, reflecting the inherent refinement of art. This selection ensures that the text harmonizes with the artistic content, enhancing the overall aesthetic without overshadowing the artwork. Additionally, a unique typeface sprinkled throughout the app provides a standout feature and a special aesthetic appeal, distinguishing it from traditional app typography.
Moreover, the app would include detailed descriptions of each art piece, providing users with rich, contextual information that enhances their appreciation and understanding of the artwork. This feature serves as an ever-growing log of Jacksonville's vibrant and booming art community, documenting the diverse range of artistic expressions and the stories behind them. By continually adding new entries, the app not only keeps users informed about the latest additions to the local art scene but also preserves the cultural heritage of the city for future generations.
The app would feature a variety of compelling functionalities, such as the ability to point your camera at a piece of art and have it identified. If the artwork has not yet been documented in the app, users can submit it themselves, fostering a fun, community-driven atmosphere. Additionally, using your location, you can see all the pieces of art in your immediate vicinity.
For the design process, I utilized wireframes, which provided a flexible and efficient way to iterate quickly and refine the app’s features. Wireframes allowed me to visually map out the app’s layout, ensuring that the user interface was intuitive and user-friendly. This method enabled me to identify potential usability issues early on and make necessary adjustments before moving on to more detailed designs. By focusing on the overall structure and functionality, wireframes helped me clearly depict the features I envisioned for the app, ensuring a cohesive and seamless user experience.
